Of course, no one will try to dance on their toes in ski boots – even if they don’t have to. Even if they did, they wouldn’t look like Roberto Bolle…

What is CrossFit?

Also known as “the sport of fitness,” CrossFit is a specific approach to training that aims to improve physical and cardiovascular health. It aims to work on cardiovascular endurance, strength and durability, flexibility, power, speed, agility, balance, coordination and precision.

CrossFit is based on the principle of a pre-determined workout per day or WOD – workout of the day – which focuses on a particular element of fitness. By following the complete program, you get to improve your all-round fitness. CrossFit has a bit of a reputation for being an extremely tough sport – and it’s not like it’s a breeze.

By its nature, CrossFit attracts many die-hard enthusiasts who find it an attractive option to really push yourself to the limit and exceed your limits. Though it has this scary reputation, CrossFit can be a great way to perfect your fitness level for everyone.

Every single workout in a CrossFit program should be fully adjustable, so that the level of difficulty can be adjusted to suit both beginners and top athletes.

So if you feel that CrossFit is only suitable for the strongest warriors, now is the time to reconsider. CrossFit is a fun and interesting way to improve health and fitness, and with the right advice and guidance, there is no program that is too difficult.

What kind of training does CrossFit involve?

A WOD could be running two kilometers at a time, interspersed with push-ups, squats and pull-ups at the bar, with or without a weighted vest. Another WOD could consist of many sets of deadlifts, power clean and shots. You could climb the rope, lift weights, swim, run… the possibilities are endless.

One of the most popular WODs is the Filthy 50, which consists of doing 50 of each: box jumps, lunges, kettlebell movements, push-ups, and much, much more.

Do the right shoes really matter?

In general, our feet are quite resilient. They adapt to many different situations and we probably don’t pay them any attention or any attention at all in everyday life. At various times, we have been inclement with our feet, we have worn stiletto heeled shoes, which lead to uncomfortable posture, or shoes with narrow toe and are obvious examples, but there are also others.

For example, ballet flats may look pretty, but as they have no support of any kind, they flatten the foot and can cause abrasions. Work boots that are too wide or too tight, causing abrasions and blisters, men’s or women’s pointed shoes can cause the big toe, hammer foot and dramatically alter posture.
